desert winter
Where we have the bus parked just outside of Bisbee proper about 3 miles, we can see into Mexico. Were about 4 miles as the crow flies from the border. You can make out the “wall” that they built to keep out the runners. At night its all lit up and you can see it stretch across the landscape as far as the eye can see. Eerie is the word that comes to mind. Not sure how tall it is but the kids want to drive down there and touch it. Lots of border patrol trucks in this neck of the woods. White with a thick green stripe, these patrol all the roads around here day and night. Sometimes they just sit at the end of roads for hours and just watch. I’ve been tempted to take Ora across the border one day to get street tacos and come right back. She at least has a birth certificate that would work. Ivy and Nowa still have no papers so might be harder for them to get back into the States .
Its been good here in Bisbee, but now we gonna head out up to Tuscon for a while. Inanna took a teaching position on line for the next few months so we need to be closer to more resources for her to teach. I’ll keep doing weekend markets with the kids and we’ll park in and around the city for a while. Had another breakdown recently on the road. The temp gauge light came on with a steady beeping noise. So I was able to pull over out of the way of traffic. I shut her down and went back to the engine and noticed all the coolant was gone ! I looked for a leak but didnt see any coolant on the ground or on the engine…head scratcher, where is all the coolant ? I had just topped it off a week ago and it was only a little low. So I called a mobile mechanic and he said he would be there in an hour or so. I started thinking worst case senarios, head gasket blown, tranny cooler shot, compressor leak, etc.. Then I decided to have another look around, this time I looked up front under the bus and bang there it was ! A huge puddle of coolant. I saw a heater hose broken clean off. Phew! what a relief , this is an easy fix. Just then a sherrif pulled behind us and started doing his checks on the rig. I walked up to his cruiser and explained the situation. He was great. Easy going and even offerd to drive me down to O’riley’s to get the new hose. So I called the moblie mechanic and cancelled his service. And saved over 400.00$ not having him come ! The cop was interested in our journey and said he wants to do the same thing someday when he retires from the force. He waited while I was in the store then drove me back to the bus. Such an interesting feeling, riding in the back of a cop car without handcuffs on…
All in all quick fix then back on the road. Tuscon here we come.
