Life at the Fair

The drive north was uneventful, thank God. Bus ran good, Aura left us to go with Christina up to Canada to see her friends and brave the wildfires and smoke that had our town of Slocan evacuated. Our little valley home in the Little Slocan Valley was evacuated and I watched on the BC firemap as the fire grew and came super close to our land. It was good practice in accepting. I’m learning over and over again how to distinguish between things I can change and things I cant change. And if I cant change them then I need to accept them. Not easy work but simple. With each situation I am confrinted with I can say , “ Do I need to change this or do I need to accept it?” The things I cant change are people, places and things. So with this fire raging so far away from us and our investment being so vunlerable it was a stretch to accept it as God’s plan. I knew the only things I could do were to pray and do some wizardly fire control by steering the fire away from our land by dowsing , intention and visualazation!! So with this as our backdrop for our first county fair event we set up out tent and sold our spinners and let whatever happen that needed to happen.

We had a slower fair. Not much action at all the first 3 days. Just enough sales to pay for our spot. Last 2 days were ok, able to buy food. Came to the realization the only difference between a carnival and a county fair is livestock. Lots of animals being shown, 4H kids, fancy breed goats and plump shiny pigs. We did win a prize however. We got best vendor booth in the whole fair! Most of the other vendors were selling usual carnival plastic stuff. So we stood out like a sore thumb. So we did our time, the kids and I swam in a lake nearby some days. There were lots of blackberries to pick right by our campspot in the parking area. Day 5 we were exhausted after staying till 9pm each night of the fair. We packed up in the dark, slept in the lot again and left in the morning.

Our next fair was 3 days, up in Port Townsand. We were all feeling excited to be back in PT for a while. We had made reservations to park and camp at the fairgrounds for a week before the fair and the week after. So it felt relaxing and easy , the weather was great. Clear, not too hot. Nowa was able to ride his bike all around the grounds and I helped him make some friends with the other kids who were camping near us. I found myself looking at my phone once a day to check the status of the wildfire. We didnt talk about it very much. Mostly because of the kids and not wanting them to feel anxious and worried but Inanna and I would check in every couple days. It was good to have us both on the same page around accepting the situation. I showed her an article I came across in a dowsing journal. It was a short, 3 page account of a woman and a few friends who wondered if they could help “move” wildfires through dowsing . It was written over 5 years ago and after reading it we both thought it was cool that they even tried to ! The article goes on to say that they were successful in controlling like 4 out five fires they worked with. Anyway it gave me incentive to at least try. So each nite I would do some focusing on the fire by our land up north and visualize a big bubble around the land and our neighbors to the east and west. I imagined it not continuing on the same path and reaffirming that our place is protected by an invisible energy field. I guess more than anything it helped me to “do” something and after that it became easier to accept the outcome. Knowing that we did all we could and leave the rest up to Creator.

This fair was different. No carnival rides, no cotton candy. Just good old fashioned livestock and folks. There were some vendors, some food booths. Really low key and down home. Had a good feel. We did well. Sold alot of spinners and one small basket. Inanna did tarot readings and had a great response. People loved the baskets here more than any other place in the last year. They saw them for what they are. We meet a 13 year old boy who’s uncle was the grounds keeper. He hung around us for the next week and we would take trips over to the old naval base and explore the tunnels. Nowa loved and Ivy too though she didnt come out and say it it was great for her to hang around a kid her age. They joked and played board games and we exchamged contacts before we left. He said we had to come back next year. His uncle let us take all the afryer grease from the fair he had stored in a 50 gallon drum! Really good oil. We were gonna go over to Port Angeles for a 4 day fair but this was more of the carnival crowd so we decided to stay PT and our friend Leif who we have known for over 20 years offered a painting job to me over in Seattle so I jumped at that. Luckily we did not pay for our spot in Port Angeles yet so it was easy to cancel. So Inanna stayed with the kids in the bus and I ferried over to Seattle to stay with perfect strangers in their basement! Leif had worked for these folks brfore and he told them I could do the work they needed so crazy enough they let me stay in the basement suite while I did the 4 day project!
