The Bus.
So over 15,000 miles on the bus now. 2 oils changes and coolant flush. I want to give an update on the status and work done thus far on the journey. I’ll start with work and maitenence done up to this point. 9 months we have been on the road since leaving BC. I’ve done 2 oil changes so far and oil looks good no metal flakes in drain pan or on magnetic plug.
Were using Rotella 15-40 and trying to change now every 5,000 miles. Usually I drain in Walmart lots into a 5 gallon bucket that just fits under the drain pan. I take it to their auto shop and dump it in their bin. I changed out the old coolant with new and chamged out coolant filter with new. Still had high running temp on grades and hills. It was running up to 220 degrees in the Rockies even after coolant change. Replaced thermostat with OEM part and seemed to resolve the overheating. The temp light for hydrolic fluid came on due to cooling fan malfunction. Replaced with new cooling fan, aftermarket and issue resolved. Had to run a toggle swith to operate fan manually from dash because temp swithch not working, could be a fuse?? If so not able to locate it. works this way for now.
Current status report: No high beams, no wiper motor passenger side. No high idle .No washer pump.
Starter motor begining to show signs of going out, weak cold starts on starter.
Noticed a leak in veg oil tank in New Mexico. Drained veg oil tank for now. Could be coming out of top of tank due to ambient outside temp and could find no tank vent…
Replaced one rear inner tire. Blowout, big gash on sidewall must have ran over curb with someththing metal protrudding…different tread design , steer tire.
Trans fluid looks good, red, no burnt smell, up to level.
Blew out air filter with compressed air, approx 50% life left on filter.
No working fuel pressure gauge, could be related to veg tank or faulty gauge…
replaced primary fuel filter, & secondary.
